This was one of the campus visits on the Cows tour. Appleton, Wisconsin is a pretty town, and the campus is beautiful! Mary Beth Petrie is the new head of admissions. Their slogan is “The Power of Individualized Thinking.”
Admissions: Lawrence takes 12 Posse students a year. 22% of their students are Pell eligible. 28% are from Wisconsin. The student should be able to pay at least of $18,000 of the tuition from their own money. The average gpa is 3.6 and test averages are ACT 26-31 and SAT 600-710. Lawrence is a test optional institution.
Academics: There are two schools on Lawrence’s campus. The regular college curriculum and the music conservancy share the same campus. There are 300 students in the conservancy. Paris Brown is the head of admissions for conservancy. I met Paris at the dinner at Cherokee Country Club last fall. 3/4 of the students are a part of the college of arts and science, and 1/4 are in the conservancy. 50% of the students in music are in the five-year program where they will receive a BA in Music and a BA in Arts. Non-music majors are in every ensemble. 150 non-music majors take music lessons on campus. There is a language requirement for all students, and it is a complete immersion program. All freshmen take a seminar course where all freshmen are reading the same works.
Athletics: Fencing is a varsity sport at Lawrence. They offer 22 varsity sports, and 25% of the student body participates in athletics.
