Visited October 23, 2013. Often I think that revisiting a college is a waste of time. There are so many colleges I have not seen once, so it is hard to convince myself to do a repeat. My visit to Mercer certainly taught me an important lesson; colleges do change drastically over the years, and it is my job to let my clients know about this.
From the moment I stepped on campus, I was blown away with the beautiful new buildings throughout the campus. The academic area of Mercer is still primarily in the old part of campus. This allows the school to give the appearance of a small institution. The admissions office, all of the Greek houses, and many of the dorms are brand new and state-of-the-art.
This is an amazing college choice for students interested in nursing and pre-medicine. The Georgia Baptist College of Nursing is on the Macon campus. There are many wonderful opportunities for undergraduate students in this field since the Mercer Medical School is only a few blocks from campus. As the dean of the nursing college writes, “With the development of the Mercer Health Sciences Center, our nursing students are able to integrate learning opportunities with fellow students from pharmacy, medicine and health professions. Together, the health science colleges and programs are learning with and from one another to deliver comprehensive and cooperative health care, which can achieve the best patient outcomes.”
OK. So what is not to love about Mercer? It is a little over an hour away from Atlanta. There are 3,600 undergraduates living and studying on the Macon campus. This is the first year that Mercer has had football, and the team is now 7 and 1. The tuition for in-state students is $8,703 per semester.
If this description of Mercer appeals to you, I encourage you to set up an appointment and visit the campus. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
