Visited August 12, 2013. After leaving Missoula, we headed toward Bozeman, Montana to visit Montana State University. I was so impressed with the University of Montana that I was sure that Montana State would be a disappointment… I was definitely mistaken!

Bozeman is a wonderful western town that is an hour from one of the best ski areas in the country, Big Sky. As I walked into the admissions office at Montana State, I was surprised that All of the admissions staff was there to great me. This was one of the most engaging admissions staff that I have ever met. It was obvious that all of them LOVE the school they represent.

The academic programs at Montana State are wide and varied. They are well known for the following programs: engineering, nursing, architecture, business and agriculture. Mother Nature Network, an online network that promotes environmental and social responsibility, recognized Montana State as one of the top ten best college environmental programs in the US. It is interesting to note that other schools receiving recognition from this group are Cornell, Duke and Yale!

Montana State offers excellent academic support for every student at the university. Its new president Dr. Waded Cruzdao initiated this as soon as she took the helm in 2010. The university offers many ways where students can receive support in all areas of the curriculum. The Office of Student Success is the umbrella organization where the student success tutors, FYI (First Year Initiative), academic tutors, academic workshops, and learning strategies classes are held. This is one of the most comprehensive academic support programs I have ever seen in a state university!
